All

All humanity lives in connection with the Father, in the Son, by the Holy Spirit.

This is the biblical witness and the historic teaching of the Church through the centuries. It is not, however, the teaching of the vast majority of Christian ministries in 21st century America.

99% of the Christian teaching of our day says that humanity lives disconnected and separated from the Father until we as individuals save ourselves by our words and our belief (“I accept Christ”) and reconnect ourselves to God by our works.

This why the Holy Spirit is beginning a neo-reformation among us, to bring us back to the correct understanding of the gospel.

Here’s some quotes from the Bible that clarify humanity’s connection to the Father, in the Son:

For in him we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:28

Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Romans 5:18

He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new humanity from the two groups. Ephesians 2:15

He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. Colossians 1:20

Here’s some quotes from the Church Fathers that make it clear:

He caused human nature to cleave to and to become one with God. Irenaeus of Lyon, Against All Heresies

Through this union of the immortal Son of God with our human nature, all men were clothed with incorruption in the promise of the resurrection. Athanasius of Alexandria, On the Incarnation

Humanity exists according to Christ, through whom all humanity is joined to the divinity. Gregory of Nyssa, Homilies on 1 Corinthians 15

  1. Great analysis of the current situation, Pastor Jonathan. Let’s not lose hope, like Elijah did, for there are many that “have not bowed before Baal.” OK, that’s a LITTLE harsh! But truly, since God has transformed my vision of Him, I am seeing more and more of it among Christianity! Such as the Phillip Yancey article in Christianity Today, in John Eldredge’s comprehension of the reality in our lives of the Trinity, of the paper that Ted shared today on the Suprising God Blog from Reality Ministries. I heard that the Southern Baptist Convention ordered 5,000 copies of “The Shack!” Lord, show us Your Hands at work even more! We are encouraged by You!

  2. Good point Jerome! I appreciate you reminding me to stay hopeful; you are right, the Holy Spirit is moving and changing the Church and everything you mention is a good sign of that.

  3. […] Stepp, and his succinct and clear article about the Union you have with God in Jesus right here, and my friend Dr. Baxter Kruger’s article here). I have elaborated on this fact in almost […]
